541 has been out of traffic since 1993. An overhaul is a distinct possibility for the not too distant future, despite the fact that it isn't her turn, there being plenty that have been out of traffic longer. This is due the the popularity of the loco with the operating department at Bluebell, and the public alike. She is currently stored and available for inspection as a static exhibit, in the running sheds at Sheffield Park. 541 is in the original 1938 Southern black goods livery that she was given when new, though she sports a BR standard chimney, which is very close to the original Maunsell pattern. The later AWS additions are removed.
